Close to a lake about a mile from his residence, a third part of the knife employed in the Bandra house assault on Saif Ali Khan was uncovered. After doctors at Lilavati Hospital extracted a 2.5-inch part of the weapon from the actor’s body during surgery, the police found the blade fragment in a pit near to Bandra Lake.
The accused, Mohammad Shariful, was taken by authorities to the lake on Wednesday morning spending almost two hours there. The cops also interrogated a Worli Koliwada hair salon owner, where Shariful was said to have altered his appearance and avoided arrest by having his hair cut. The 30-year-old Bangladeshi national had entered India last year under the assumed name Vijay Das, sources claim.
Shariful entered Saif Ali Khan’s house in a burglary attempt on January 16. While the actor was shielding his younger son Jeh, the victim asked for ₹1 crore says the child’s nanny. The suspect was found using video from a stairwell camera even though first CCTV footage did not show an intruder. Purporedly he climbed over the compound wall and slipped by slumbering security personnel.
Taken to Lilavati Hospital, Saif Ali Khan had one surgery to stop spinal fluid leakage and another to extract a knife fragment. Released on Wednesday, the actor came across Bhajan Singh Rana, an auto-rickshaw driver who had assisted him to the hospital after the assault.
The case is under thorough Mumbai Police investigation. Multiple forensic divisions within the Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) are examining key evidence such mobile phones, CCTV footage, and the suspect’s clothing.
The police reenacted the series of events at Khan’s apartment building, Satguru Sharan, with the suspect in attendance to reconstruct the crime scene on Tuesday. Several fingerprints of the suspect were also found by the probe on Saif Ali Khan’s house’s surfaces, including on the stairs, a toilet door, and Jeh’s room’s door handle.
Before getting to Khan’s home, police said the defendants tried to break into three other homes with the aim of stealing.
