A 25-year-old model, Shivani Singh, tragically lost her life in Mumbai’s Bandra on Friday when a speeding water tanker collided with the two-wheeler she was riding as a pillion passenger. The accident occurred on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road around 8 PM. Shivani’s friend, who was driving the two-wheeler, suffered a leg fracture.
Reports state the water tanker suddenly appeared and hit the two-wheeler head-on. Shivani was thrown off and came under the vehicle’s wheels. Despite bystanders rushing her to Bhabha Hospital, she was declared dead on arrival. The tanker driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The Bandra Police have registered a case against the driver and launched a manhunt to apprehend him. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to trace his whereabouts.
Mumbai has witnessed several hit-and-run cases recently. In November, a 30-year-old woman was killed in Mulund when a truck ran over her scooter. Similarly, in July, a BMW accident in Worli claimed the life of a 45-year-old woman and injured her husband, with the driver, Mihir Shah, being arrested for rash driving.
These incidents highlight growing concerns about road safety in India’s financial capital.
