Saif Ali Khan attack case: Accused identified as Bangladeshi, entered actor’s home with intent to rob

During a media briefing on Sunday, Mumbai Police disclosed that the arrested suspect in the Saif Ali Khan attack case is believed to be a Bangladeshi national. Police stated that seized belongings provide evidence supporting this claim.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, allegedly changed his name to Vijay Das after illegally entering India, according to DCP Zone 9 Dixit Gedam. He further revealed that the 30-year-old suspect had entered Saif Ali Khan’s residence intending to commit robbery.

“Prima facie, the accused appears to be of Bangladeshi origin. After entering India illegally, he adopted the alias Vijay Das. He arrived in Mumbai 5-6 months ago, staying briefly in Mumbai before moving to its outskirts. He had been employed with a housekeeping agency,” Gedam explained.

Regarding the incident, Gedam stated, “On January 16, around 2 am, actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his residence. An FIR was registered, and the accused has been arrested. His name is Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, and he is 30 years old. Evidence indicates he entered the house intending to commit robbery. He will be presented in court, and further investigation is ongoing.”

He added, “There is initial evidence to suggest the accused is a Bangladeshi national. He lacks valid Indian documents, and some seized items point to his Bangladeshi identity.”

Earlier, Mumbai Police revealed that the suspect used multiple aliases, including Vijay Das and Bijoy Das. The arrest occurred in Thane West, Maharashtra.
