YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia is encountering increasing backlash due to his controversial statements on the roast show India’s Got Latent. Even though the 31-year-old has apologized for his inappropriate remarks, the controversy keeps intensifying into a serious issue.

Key Developments in the Controversy:

  • Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has stated that she will bring up the issue in the Parliamentary panel of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

 

  • “Any offensive language in the guise of comedy content that crosses boundaries is unacceptable. Having a platform does not give the right to say anything. He has millions of subscribers, and every politician has appeared on his podcast. The PM has honored him with an award. . . As a member of the standing committee of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, I will address this matter,” she stated on X.

 

  • Police complaints have been lodged against Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, influencer Apoorva Makhija, and others who were part of the India’s Got Latent episode where the objectionable comments were made. Cases have been initiated in both Mumbai and Guwahati.

 

  • Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the state police have filed an FIR against Allahbadia, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, comedian Jaspreet Singh, Makhija, Raina, and others on accusations of promoting obscenity and partaking in sexually explicit dialogues.

 

  • In Mumbai, several complaints have been made against Allahbadia, who commands a large online presence, boasting 4. 5 million Instagram followers and 10. 5 million YouTube subscribers. Authorities have started an investigation, and both Allahbadia and Raina have been summoned for questioning.

 

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke about the controversy, stating that he had been made aware of the situation.

 

  • “Everyone has freedom of speech, but this freedom ends when we infringe upon others’ freedom. There are limits for all, and if anyone exceeds them, action will be taken,” he mentioned.

 

  • Allahbadia, commonly referred to as “BeerBiceps,” appeared in an episode of India’s Got Latent, hosted by Raina. A viral segment from the show shows him asking an inappropriate question to a contestant:

 

  • “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever? “

 

  • Following widespread indignation, Allahbadia posted a public apology, recognizing his mistake and admitting that comedy is not his specialty.

 

  • “My comment wasn’t merely inappropriate; it wasn’t even humorous. Comedy is not my strength; I am here to apologize,” he said in a video message.

 

  • “I will not provide any context or justification or reasoning for what occurred. I am just here to apologize. I personally had a lapse in judgment. It wasn’t acceptable on my part,” he continued.

 

  • The incident has reignited conversations about offensive material in comedy. Singer B Praak, who was supposed to feature on Allahbadia’s podcast, canceled his appearance and urged stand-up comedians to be cautious of the material they produce.
