Nolan’s most awaited biographical thriller Oppenheimer finally hit the theatres on the 21st of July and has been a global hit. Although, it’s a bit behind in race with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie worldwide, Indian audiences have preferred Nolan over Gerwig. Nolan is acclaimed around the globe for his larger than life yet realistic take on intricate subjects. Nolan’s fanbase in India has only grown over the years and his craze among young adults is tremendous. This is evident from the figures- Oppenheimer has made its way into the 100 crore-club in India while Barbie lingers around 40 crore mark. On its debut date itself Oppenheimer made unexpected earnings. It made around 47.25 crores on its debut weekend alone. The film revolves around the life of the physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer who developed the first ever atomic bomb and changed the course of the history.
The success of the film however is influenced by various other factors. The film released across a larger number of screens — around 1,923 including IMAX screens as compared to an estimated 868 screens being allotted to Barbie in the country. Not only this, the film has been branded in the name of Nolan in a very witty manner. Nevertheless, Oppenheimer has been successful in creating a space for itself in the minds of Indian audiences and has further raised the Nolan hype.
