Kangana Ranaut has released the much-awaited trailer of her film ‘Emergency’, which will release on January 17. Posting the trailer on X (formerly Twitter), Kangana, who is playing former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is seen telling the President that she is the “cabinet.” The trailer of two minutes also brings to the screen Jayaprakash Narayan played by Anupam Kher, Atal Bihari Vajpayee played by Shreyas Talpade, and Milind Soman playing the role of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.
In a crucial scene, Kangana’s Indira Gandhi declares in the Assembly, “The only way to accept the truth is to wage a war,” which takes the country into an era of bloodshed and mayhem once she decides to impose Emergency on it. The trailer ends with her voice pronouncing, “Indira is India.”.

She put her view regarding the film on X: “1975, Emergency — A Defining chapter in Indian History. Indira: India’s most powerful woman. Her ambition transformed the nation, but her #EMERGENCY plunged it into chaos.”
About Emergency
‘Emergency’ takes an exploration of the 21-month emergency declared by the late Prime Minister between 1975 and 1977 is written, directed, and co-produced by Kangana. The movie also features Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, Ashok Chhabra as Morarji Desai, Vishak Nair as Sanjay Gandhi, and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram. It was scheduled for release on September 6, 2024, but failed to hit the screens on its scheduled date due to some problems with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
