The production team behind Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Emergency has agreed to implement changes proposed by the Revising Committee. This decision was revealed during a hearing in the Bombay High Court, where Zee Studio’s lawyer informed the court of their acceptance of the recommendations.
Revisions and Certification Process
The filmmakers submitted a detailed format outlining how they plan to implement the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) suggestions. The CBFC is expected to review this format, with a response to follow in a subsequent hearing scheduled for Thursday, October 3. Originally slated for release last month, Emergency has faced delays due to issues with certification, which have yet to be resolved.
Kangana Ranaut’s Disappointment Over Delays
Last week, Kangana Ranaut expressed frustration regarding the film’s postponed release, criticizing the CBFC’s decision to withhold certification. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she referred to the board’s actions as “illegal” and shared a post from Live Law, writing: “High court has blasted censor for illegally withholding the certificate of #emergency.”
In an interview with IANS, Kangana shared her concerns, saying, “It’s getting too late. I hope the film comes on time. Otherwise, I am determined to fight for it. I am determined to even go to court to protect my film. To save my right as an individual. You can’t change history and scare us by threats.”
She further elaborated, “We have to show the history. An almost 70-year-old woman was shot 30-35 times in her house… Someone must have killed her. Now you want to show it… Because apparently, you think you can hurt someone. But you have to show the history. So how did she die?”
Controversy and Objections from Sikh Groups
The film’s release has also stirred controversy, particularly among Sikh organizations. Earlier this month, groups like the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akhal Takht raised objections, calling for an immediate ban on Emergency. They argued that the film presents a distorted narrative that could be seen as an attempt to “character assassinate” Sikhs.
