Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, bringing their two-year marriage to an end. The legal filing occurred on August 20 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, coinciding with the couple’s second wedding anniversary. Their traditional wedding took place in Georgia in 2022. Over recent months, rumors of their separation had gained attention, and now the couple has decided to part ways.
TMZ reports that Lopez submitted the legal documents on August 20, though neither she nor Affleck have made public statements about the divorce at this time. According to the documents, the couple has been separated since April 26, 2024. Notably, there is no prenuptial agreement in place between the two, meaning their earnings from their time together will be divided equally.
A source close to Lopez told People that she took time to come to terms with the separation but is now prepared to move forward. “She’s very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn’t given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage,” the source revealed.
The couple had two weddings—the first was a low-key ceremony in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022, followed by a traditional wedding a month later in Georgia on August 20, 2022.
Without a prenuptial agreement, the couple’s earnings from their two years of marriage will be considered community property. Additionally, Lopez has waived spousal support and asked the judge to deny any such support for Ben Affleck.
Lopez has two children, twins Emme and Max, from her previous marriage to Marc Anthony, while Affleck has three children, Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel, with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
