Jaya Bachchan Calls Aishwarya Rai ‘Not Her Daughter’ in Throwback Video

Jaya Bachchan’s frank remarks about her daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, often catch the media’s attention. A resurfaced interview that’s gaining traction on Reddit is no different. In the interview, Jaya was asked if she was strict with Aishwarya after her marriage to Abhishek Bachchan, and she didn’t hesitate to share her thoughts. Jaya clarified that as a mother-in-law, she didn’t feel the need to be strict, leaving that responsibility to Aishwarya’s own mother.

She stated, “There is a difference between a daughter and a daughter-in-law, you know. I mean, I don’t know why, but you don’t feel you don’t need to respect your parents. As a daughter, you take your parents for granted. With your in-laws, you can’t do that.”

Jaya also noted that relationship dynamics could change over time. She added, “And later on, things change – because today, I feel more a Bachchan than a Bhaduri.”

Jaya admitted that she was a “very strict” parent to her children, Abhishek and Shweta Bachchan. However, when asked if she maintained the same strictness with Aishwarya, she dismissed the idea, saying, “Strict? She’s not my daughter! She’s my daughter-in-law. Why should I be strict with her? I’m sure her mother has done that for her.”

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, who married in 2007 and welcomed their daughter Aaradhya in 2011, generally keep their relationship private. They usually express their affection on social media during birthdays and anniversaries. However, Aishwarya’s recent solo appearance on the red carpet at the Ambani wedding, while Abhishek was seen with his father Amitabh Bachchan, sister Shweta, and niece Navya Naveli Nanda, sparked rumors.

Abhishek Bachchan once discussed the bond between Aishwarya and Jaya Bachchan on Koffee With Karan. He shared, “What works also is that Maa and her (Aishwarya) are very close. They talk about everything. When a woman first comes to her husband’s house, she feels a bit out of place, evidently and obviously. I think the only person who can truly fill that void is her mother-in-law.”
