Celebrities Remember the Legend
Shatrughan Sinha, also a TMC MP, took to social media to express his gratitude for Mangeshkar’s musical legacy. “Floral & earnest tributes for the pride of the nation melodious nightingale a ‘Bharat Ratna’ #LataMangeshkar on her death anniversary. Vishal Bhardwaj, the director who teamed up with Mangeshkar for the all-time hit “Paani Paani Re” for the 1996 film Maachis, took to Instagram Stories to pay a tribute, posting the song’s audio.
Singer Jaspinder Narula, who received Padma Shri recently, made a heartfelt video singing one of Mangeshkar’s great tracks, Betaab Dil Ki Tamanna, in Hanste Zakhm from 1973.
Actor Jackie Shroff paid tributes to the veteran singer as he posted an excerpt of Lag Ja Gale from an old Hindi movie on his handle X and added, “Forever in our hearts.”
National Tributes
As homage, the Indian Prime Minister paid an obituary on her demise along with the cultural institutions in India. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting wrote that “Her Voice in time is still sounding into the hearts of millions.”
The National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) referred to her as the “Voice of the Millennium.” Doordarshan wrote her song melodies as “weaving magic, keeping her music legacy alive in every note and heart.
Here, the National Archives of India released a very rare letter of 1989 that Mangeshkar had written giving permission for using her photograph in the Golden Hits of Lata Mangeshkar video cassette.
