Son of the late actor Nageswar Rao, the talented Akkineni Nagarjuna Rao came into the world on August 29, 1959. Born in Chennai, he later relocated with his family to Hyderabad, where he completed his schooling. Nagarjuna pursued a year of mechanical engineering at Anna University’s Kindi College of Engineering. He was married to Lashmi Dagupathi and then married Amala Akkineni. He is the father of two sons, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni. His celluloid journey commenced as a child artist in the Telugu film “Sudigundalu.” His artistic endeavors extend beyond acting, encompassing roles as a film producer, television host, and entrepreneur. Nagarjuna’s footprint graces Telugu cinema, alongside ventures in Hindi and Tamil. His accomplishments include clinching nine Andhra Pradesh State Nandi Awards, three Filmfare Awards South, and two National Film Awards. His cinematic laurels encompass the Best Film in Telugu accolade for “Ninne Belladatta” (1996) and the Best Actor recognition for “Annamayya” (1997). The year 1989 witnessed his remarkable performance in Mani Ratnam’s “Geethanjali,” a recipient of the National Film Award for Best Popular Film in Entertainment.
