Bollywood Actor and Politician Kangana Ranaut announced that her latest film, Emergency, will premiere on Netflix on March 17. After a long delay, this film was released on January 17.
It has arrived in cinema amid controversy over its critical re-examination of censor certification and misleading representation of the Sikh community. A Kangana-directed film, it features a tumultuous political context during the period of Emergency (1975-77), portraying her as late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Kangana Ranaut’s Film
Kangana Ranaut, nevertheless, has come to the aid of this historical drama, capturing the resplendence of that period against the febrile political and personal machinations. The film stars Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, and Vishak Nair, playing political leaders.
This film represents one of the most heatedly contested sections of Indian history when Indira Gandhi debased the whole expected structure of the state by declaring an Emergency and curbing civil liberties.
Emergency’s Controversies
‘Emergency’ has faced quite a few hurdles as vexed Sikh organizations like the SGPC protested that the film misrepresented historical facts about the community. A legal notice threatening to take action for deleting certain scenes deemed anti-Sikh was issued in August 2024.
After all this controversy, it was released in theaters and gained mixed publication reviews- with praises toward Kangana’s performance and the historical narrative of the film.
With its Netflix premiere on March 17, Emergency will attract a larger audience, enabling fans interested in political history and Kangana Ranaut to relive this controversial period in India.
