Pakistani musician Haniya Aslam, known for her work as one half of the duo Zeb-Haniya, passed away on August 11 due to a cardiac arrest. The news was confirmed by Zeb Bangash, her cousin and musical partner, on Instagram. Haniya and Zeb collaborated on many popular tracks, including “Chal Diye” for Coke Studio Pakistan.
In a tribute shared on Instagram, Zeb posted several photos and wrote, “Hanini ✨♥️.” The post drew numerous condolences and prayers from fans and fellow artists. One comment read, “Inna lillahe wa inna ilaehe raje’oon – she was always so sweet and a brilliant talent – I’m so sorry for your loss and pray that Allah Pak gives you and the family sabr during this difficult time – Allah Pak Janat ul firdous main jaga dain Ameen.”
Another user commented, “What an immense loss! She was a beautiful and talented soul. She will forever be missed. May Allah grant her soul eternal peace and you and the family the strength to bear this loss with fortitude.” A third added, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun… all my love to you Zeb. Your names are forever entwined in music and memory for me. So much love.”
Born in Karachi, Haniya Aslam studied in the USA and UK and completed an Audio Engineering Diploma in Canada. In a 2020 interview with Youlin Magazine, she mentioned, “I’m not sure if I started pursuing music or music started pursuing me!” She began honing her guitar skills and songwriting during her undergraduate studies. Her collaboration with Zeb on the 2001 song “Chup” went viral, leading to a lasting partnership. Together, they recorded an album with top Pakistani musicians and worked with notable figures like Rohail Hayat and AR Rahman.
