Vineet Kumar Singh, known for his powerful performances, is ready to impress again in Reema Kagti’s upcoming film, Superboys of Malegaon. After earning praise for his roles in ensemble films, he now plays Farogh, a struggling writer in Malegaon’s unique filmmaking world. However, this character feels different for Singh. It hits close to home.

Real-Life Writing Experience Adds Depth

Singh’s past as a writer makes his portrayal of Farogh even more authentic. Before becoming an actor, he explored writing, which helped him understand the struggles of creative expression. He knows the highs of passion and the lows of frustration. His experience brings realism to the role.

Challenges of Fitting Into a Younger Group

Discussing the role, Singh shared, “I had written Mukkabaaz along with my sister, and I still try to write whenever time permits. So, I was able to bring a lot of my personal experiences to Farogh. Additionally, having worked as an assistant director, I had insight into visualizing a film within a film.” However, one challenge stood out. “I am 7-8 years older than all of them, so it was tough to justify the friendship and camaraderie on-screen without making the age gap jarringly obvious,” he explained.

The Story Behind a Memorable Line

The film’s trailer has already sparked excitement. One dialogue, “Writer baap hota hai,” has caught attention. Singh revealed how it came to be. “It is perhaps a force of habit – I tend to instinctively improvise in certain scenes. The ‘writer baap hota hai’ scene was already beautifully written, and it is an important one too. But that particular line just flowed naturally when I delivered it. When I asked Reema if we could keep it, she loved it as well. That’s how it made the final cut!”

A Tribute to Malegaon’s DIY Cinema

Superboys of Malegaon explores dreams, friendship, and the magic of cinema. Set in Malegaon’s grassroots filmmaking scene, it brings humor and heart to the screen. The film, starring Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Shashank Arora, has already gained global recognition. It won praise at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
