Bhajan Singh Rana, an auto driver from Mumbai, became a national hero after saving actor Saif Ali Khan from a life-threatening emergency. Rana took Saif to Lilavati Hospital last week after the actor suffered six injuries in a knife attack at his home. Saif underwent surgery to repair leaking spinal fluid and remove a piece of the knife lodged near his spine.

Saif was released on Monday after five days of treatment and he was extremely thankful to Rana for the timely help.

Rana meets Saif and Sharmila Tagore

Recalling the meeting with Saif’s family, Rana said that the actor introduced him to his mother, veteran actor Sharmila Tagore. In respect, Rana touched Sharmila’s feet, and the family expressed their gratitude. “He (Saif) gave me (money) whatever he felt was right and said whenever I need help, he will be there,” Rana said, adding that the family even took photos with him as a gesture of gratitude.

Reward Gossips and Rana’s Humble Retort

When approached if he’ll take a fresh auto-rickshaw from Saif, he was humble with the response: “Maang toh nhi raha magar agar unki ichcha hogi aur dena chahenge toh le lunga,” he was seen saying, according to an Instant Bollywood report.

Maine kabhi nhi kaha ki maine jo bhi kiya hai use ke liye mujhey kuch mile ya Mai uss cheez k liye laalach kar raha hu,” Rana said and clarified that he is not demanding a reward, but he’d accept it as a gift if that’s offered to him.

Rana told PTI that Saif had shown his gratitude through financial aid, but he declined to mention the figure. “Let people say that he (Saif) gave me ₹50,000 or ₹1,00,000, but I would not like to reveal the amount. He has requested me not to share this information and I’ll keep my promise to him,” Rana said.

The Attack and Its Aftermath

The incident occurred last week when Saif was attacked at his home, and he suffered serious injuries. The Mumbai Police have arrested the accused on Sunday and kept him in custody. Saif, who is now recovering at home, assured Rana of his continued support whenever needed.

Rana’s story of courage and humility has struck a chord all over the nation, inspiring calls for recognition of his selfless act. Then again, Rana remains grounded and emphasizes that he acted out of humanity rather than expectation.
