Annu Kapoor Responds to Priyanka Chopra’s Refusal to Kiss Him in ‘7 Khoon Maaf’

Priyanka Chopra’s role in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2011 film, ‘7 Khoon Maaf’, is widely regarded as one of her finest performances. The black comedy also starred Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan Khan, Annu Kapoor, and Neil Nitin Mukesh in significant roles. The film included some intimate scenes between Chopra and Kapoor, which the actress found uncomfortable. Nearly 15 years after the film’s release, Annu Kapoor discussed this issue in an interview.

In a conversation with ANI, Kapoor shared that Priyanka Chopra expressed her discomfort during the filming of certain scenes. This prompted director Vishal Bhardwaj to speak with Kapoor about the situation. Kapoor suggested cutting the scene, but Bhardwaj insisted on keeping it, believing it was essential to the film’s artistic vision. Ultimately, Chopra and Kapoor proceeded to complete the scene, with Kapoor jokingly recalling that a crew member praised him for his solo shot.

Annu Kapoor also commented on the rumors that surfaced after the film’s release, suggesting that Priyanka may have felt uneasy because he didn’t conform to the traditional Bollywood hero image. He remarked, “Mujhe to pata nahi usne kya kaha kya nahi kaha, lekin simple si baat hai ki agar market me charcha horahi hai, news ban rahi hai, to seedhi baat hai ki agar mai hero hota to Priyanka Chopra ko koi apatti nahi hoti. Hero ko chumne me kisiko apatti nahi hoti. Wo to mai hoon, na shakal hai na surat hai na personality, islie problem hai.” (If this became such a hot topic among fans and the media, it’s clear that if I were a hero, Priyanka Chopra wouldn’t have had any objections. Actresses don’t hesitate to kiss film heroes. Maybe it’s because I lack looks and personality that this became an issue.)

‘7 Khoon Maaf’ is inspired by the true story of Susanna Anna-Marie Johannes, a wealthy Anglo-Indian woman who brutally murders six of her lovers in her quest for extreme love.
