‘Maria’ recently received an eight-minute standing ovation at its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, held at the Sala Grande Theatre, during which Jolie was seen wiping away tears. Netflix acquired the film after winning a competitive bidding war with another major distributor ahead of the festival.

Directed by Pablo Larrain, the biographical drama focuses on Maria Callas, the American Greek soprano, as she spends her final days in Paris reflecting on her complex and turbulent life in the spotlight. The film explores her struggles with identity and legacy. Produced by Jonas Dornbach, Janine Jackowski, Juan de Dios Larrain, and Lorenzo Mieli, the film offers a poignant reimagining of the soprano’s later years.
