In a proactive measure to mitigate road accidents in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has commenced a campaign to prune overgrown branches of trees across the city and its suburbs. Officials have identified branches along flyovers and arterial roads as high-priority areas for trimming. The move comes as a response to instances where overgrown branches pose a hazard to motorists, especially those driving at high speeds. The risk of road accidents increases when these branches fall onto the main carriageway. BMC officials emphasized the importance of addressing this issue promptly to enhance road safety. The civic body has initiated a dedicated drive to prune these trees, targeting completion by Sunday (December 17). The campaign is being executed at the ward level, with designated tree officers overseeing the operation in each of the 24 municipal wards. Additionally, BMC undertakes routine pruning of trees annually before the monsoon season to prevent tree collapses during heavy rains. This latest initiative focuses on specific areas prone to accidents, demonstrating BMC’s commitment to proactively address potential safety concerns on Mumbai’s roads.
