U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has been actively promoting a new ceasefire proposal in phone discussions with Israeli war cabinet members Yoav Gallant and Benny Gantz. Blinken emphasized that the new plan would enhance Israel’s long-term security.

Despite Blinken’s efforts, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant openly rejected the proposal on the same day, asserting that Israel will not end the war until it has dismantled Hamas’ military and governing capabilities. This stance directly challenges the U.S. proposal, which includes a permanent ceasefire and an end to the ongoing conflict.

The new peace plan, unveiled by U.S. President Joe Biden on May 31, aims to bring lasting peace to the region. However, Gallant’s firm position indicates significant obstacles remain in achieving this goal.
