BJP National Executive Member Dr. Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi recently appealed to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, raising critical issues affecting farmers in Ferozepur’s border areas. Sodhi emphasized that thousands of farmers in Ferozepur hold land across the India-Pakistan border, yet security restrictions greatly limit their access to farm these properties. He urged the Governor to advocate with the central government to secure unhindered access for these farmers.
In addition to border challenges, Sodhi highlighted the neglect of infrastructure in flood-hit areas, urging the government to expedite repairs of damaged roads and bridges. He also voiced concerns about the outdated British-era GGO 1836 laws governing Ferozepur Cantonment, which prohibit residents from owning or registering land. To resolve this, he proposed dissolving the cantonment’s restrictions and bringing it under civilian jurisdiction.
Sodhi further pushed for the Ferozepur-Fazilka road’s expansion to a four-lane highway to prevent frequent accidents caused by heavy traffic from neighboring states. Lastly, he urged the Governor to enhance Ferozepur’s tourism potential by promoting its historical sites, including the Bhagat Singh Memorial, Saragarhi Memorial, and the migratory bird haven at Harike, envisioning Harike as an international tourist attraction to boost the local economy.
