The mayoral polls in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, mandated by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, are gaining significant attention nationwide. Pawan Bansal, a former Union Minister and prominent Congress leader, emphasises the crucial nature of these elections.
He asserts that they are urging the administration to ensure a fair process and instructing their councillors to remain vigilant. Despite harbouring concerns about the BJP’s potential misconduct, Bansal expresses confidence in the Congress and its commitment to Gandhian values. He believes that the India alliance, rooted in these values, will triumph on Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary.

Highlighting the significance of this electoral battle, Bansal positions it as the starting point for the BJP’s defeat. He accuses the BJP of employing various tactics, including “Sama-Daam-Dand-Bheda” (persuasion, bribery, punishment, and division), to secure victory.

He contends that the BJP, driven by a desire to maintain power, has orchestrated conspiracies to delay the elections, and only the court’s intervention has ensured their continuation. Despite the challenges, Bansal is optimistic that the India alliance will emerge victorious and suggests that the BJP’s attempts to thwart the electoral process are indicative of their fear of defeat.

In essence, he sees these elections as a pivotal moment, marking the beginning of the BJP’s decline, and underscores the importance of upholding democratic values.
