The BJP’s victory in the three big States has boosted the morale of the party’s Bengal unit, which is gearing up for the 2024 general elections. The party has been working hard to make inroads into Bengal, which has traditionally been a stronghold of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The BJP’s victory in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh has given the party a much-needed shot in the arm, and leaders are confident that they can replicate this success in Bengal.
BJP MLAs, including Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, who is serving out a suspension, came to the Assembly dressed in saffron headgear with photos of Prime Minister hanging from their necks and distributed trays of laddoos. Suvendu Adhikari said: “This was a Modi storm. Next year, there will be a Modi tsunami…. This State Government won’t continue till 2026,” added Adhikari.
The otherwise beleaguered Bengal BJP unit was buoyant with Sunday’s sweep of the Hindi heartland, as it renewed its 35-seat Lok Sabha pledge for the State and made claims of felling prematurely the Mamata Banerjee Government.
