The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Central Election Committee is expected to meet on August 25 to finalize candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. The meeting will take place at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi.

The Election Commission has already issued a notification for the first phase of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, where voting will take place on 24 seats on September 18. The Union Territory will conduct the elections in three phases.

In Haryana, elections for the 90 assembly constituencies are scheduled for October 1, with vote counting set for October 4 in both Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.

Ahead of the meeting, BJP leaders conducted a two-day brainstorming session in Gurugram to finalize candidates for the Haryana elections. Sources reveal that the Haryana unit has prepared a list of over 300 potential candidates, which will be presented to the Central Election Committee for consideration. Each constituency has between two to five names shortlisted for candidacy.
