As the countdown for the Karnataka assembly polls has begun, incumbent Chief Minister Basavaraj Somappa Bommai bared his agenda before NewsX and said that the purpose of his rallies is to deliver the report card of the double engine government of the state.
He also said that the BJP government in Karnataka is working on the ideology and principles of Basavanna and will continue to work on it. During this, he said that BJP’s victory in Karnataka is certain and that the party is trying to put its principles and ideology in front of the people. He also said that the people of Karnataka will extend their full sympathy and cooperation in this political mission.
Taking a dig at the Congress, Bommai said that Lingayat voters in Karnataka are cautious. They have always taken the right decision. Congress has shown special love for him after the announcement of assembly elections. It was the same party which tried to divide the Lingayats and the Veerashaivas. People have not forgotten the divide and rule policy of the Congress. Bommai said the Congress shows special affection to Lingayats only during elections. Significantly, talking to reporters in Mudhol, he said that the Congress had also opposed reservation for the Lingayats.
Elections to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly are to be held on 10 May and the results will be declared 13 May. A total of 3,130 candidates are in the fray. BJP has fielded its candidates on all 224 seats and Congress on 223 seats. JD(S) is contesting on 211 seats. Apart from this, the Aam Aadmi Party has fielded 212 candidates. There are 1,379 independent candidates in the fracas. Campaigning for the assembly elections in Karnataka, BJP and Congress leaders are constantly engaged in wooing the voters.
