Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu is poised for a third term, as early trends from the assembly election results indicate the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) crossing the halfway mark. The BJP is currently leading in 43 out of the 60 seats in the state, showcasing a strong performance.

The counting of votes for 50 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh began early today amid tight security measures. The ruling BJP has already secured 10 assembly seats unopposed, further solidifying its dominant position.

Vote Counting Amid Heavy Rain

Counting commenced at 6 AM in 24 district headquarters, despite heavy rainfall across the state. The final results are anticipated by noon, according to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pawan Kumar Sain. The assembly and Lok Sabha elections were held simultaneously on April 19 during the first phase of polling.

Arunachal Pradesh’s legislative assembly comprises 60 seats, while the state is represented by two Lok Sabha seats. The vote counting process involves over 2,000 officials to ensure smooth and efficient management.

High Voter Turnout

The assembly elections witnessed an estimated voter turnout of 82.71 percent, demonstrating significant public participation. Meanwhile, the turnout for the two Lok Sabha seats was recorded at 77.51 percent. Votes for the Lok Sabha seats will be counted on June 4, along with the rest of the country.

Historical Context and Current Trends

In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured both Lok Sabha seats and 41 assembly constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh. Other parties’ performances included the JD (U) winning seven assembly seats, the NPP five, Congress four, and the PPA one. Additionally, two Independent candidates also emerged victorious.

With the current trends favoring the BJP, Chief Minister Pema Khandu appears set to continue his leadership, reinforcing the party’s stronghold in the northeastern state. The early trends not only highlight BJP’s dominance but also reflect the continued support from the electorate for the ruling party.

As the final results are awaited, the BJP’s significant lead suggests a robust mandate from the people of Arunachal Pradesh, potentially ensuring stability and continuity in the state’s governance.
