The performance of the Congress party in Gujarat has been steadily weakening for the last one and a half years, against which the BJP is performing better in terms of organization and performance in the elections. Following the impact of the anti-incumbency factor, the BJP recently replaced the entire government. On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party has not been able to perform as it should in other elections in Gujarat except Surat. If this continues, it will not be a surprise if BJP wins 160 seats in the next assembly elections.
The results of the Municipal Corporation elections held in Gandhinagar came out on Tuesday, in which BJP won 41 out of 44 seats and eliminated both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party. Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation will now be without opposition. The performance of the Congress, which has been the strongest opposition in Gujarat for the last 25 years, is on its deathbed. The Congress also had a poor result in the local body elections held in February this year.
The Congress, the second largest party in Ahmedabad, won 25 seats in the municipal elections and could not finalize the name of the Leader of the Opposition in seven months. On the other hand, the Congress did not even open an account in the Surat Municipal Corporation elections and thus the Aam Aadmi Party has become the second largest party with 27 seats. While the BJP is becoming a strong party despite its performance in the Corona epidemic and the displeasure of the Patidars.
If we look at the performance of the Congress in the elections held in 6 Municipal Corporations of the state in the month of February, it got 25 seats in Ahmedabad, 0 seats in Surat, 7 seats in Vadodara, 4 seats in Rajkot, 11 seats in Jamnagar and 8 seats in Bhavnagar. The Aam Aadmi Party, which is contesting for the first time in Surat, won 27 seats. In Ahmedabad too, the new party AIMIM won 7 seats. In Jamnagar, BSP candidates won 3 seats.
In Gujarat, BJP’s saffron is also flying in the by-elections of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, general of three municipalities and district-taluka panchayat. Out of a total of 228 seats, the BJP has won 175 seats. In terms of percentage, the BJP has won 76 per cent of the total seats in the local body elections. Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, Okha Municipality and Thara Municipality have been captured by BJP while Bhanwad Municipality has been captured by Congress.
