Senior BJP leader and iconic figure LK Advani is set to receive the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, according to an announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sharing the news on social media, PM Modi praised Advani’s monumental contributions to India’s development. Modi expressed his happiness, stating, “I am very happy to share that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna.”
The Prime Minister highlighted Advani’s distinguished political career, from grassroots work to serving as Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister, and I&B Minister. Born in Karachi in 1927, Advani served as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party and played key roles in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet.
Known for his intellectual ability, strong principles, and unwavering support for a strong India, Advani’s journey began amidst the turmoil of India’s partition. His dedication to creating a secular India led him to Rajasthan to continue his work as an RSS Pracharak.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Advani focused on building the BJP into a national political force, achieving significant success in the 1989, 1992, and 1996 elections, marking a historic shift in Indian democracy. Atal Bihari Vajpayee praised Advani for his commitment to nationalism and flexibility in political responses when required.
