Prominent allies on Friday proposed the name of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Narendra Modi as the leader of the NDA Parliamentary party, paving the way for him to become the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term. With Narendra Modi taking oath as Prime Minister for the third time, now there are ongoing speculations about the new president of BJP.
The speech delivered by Acting Prime Minister Modi in the Central Hall today suggests a keen focus on strategizing for the future, particularly in terms of securing victory in the 2029 elections. This responsibility is expected to be shouldered by his party organization, which also needs to make decisions regarding the appointment of a new National President. With the current President, JP Nadda’s tenure set to expire in June, this decision becomes imminent.
Looking at Modi’s stance, it is being strengthened that Amit Shah can once again return to the post of National President. Along with him, many ministers of Modi 2 will also return to the organization. However, the names of former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan, former CM of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar and Devendra Fadnavis are also being discussed for the post of President. There are indications that by Saturday it will be clear who all are being made ministers in Modi 3 government. According to sources, if Shivraj Singh Chouhan is appointed as a minister and Amit Shah is not included in Modi’s new team, there’s a possibility that Chouhan could be assigned the Home Ministry. In such a scenario, Amit Shah might focus on organizational matters. The Prime Minister is reportedly displeased with the party’s failure to secure a majority independently in the recent elections. Reports from states where the party faced defeat indicate shortcomings in the effectiveness of state-level organizations. Booth management issues were particularly prominent in states like Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Reports from various states have highlighted a lack of enthusiasm among BJP workers during the recent elections. Instances have been cited where voting slips were not distributed to voters, even in the Prime Minister’s parliamentary constituency, indicating a concerning level of indifference. As elections are set to continue until 2025, with upcoming polls in states such as Haryana and Maharashtra just four months away, the BJP faces significant challenges.
