The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marked its most successful run in Haryana during the 2024 assembly elections. With a seat share of 53.3% and a vote share of 39.9%, it secured the highest numbers the party has ever seen in the state.
The BJP’s growing influence is evident from the number of constituencies where it finishes either first or second. Between 2014 and 2024, this figure has steadily increased—rising from 64 seats in 2014 to 81 in 2024.
In the 2024 elections, BJP’s median vote share surged to 44.5%, up from 32.4% in 2014. This rise was consistent across key regions of the state, including Jat Land and northern and southern Haryana.
BJP’s success lies in consolidating the anti-Congress vote, without significantly taking away Congress’s support base. Over the last decade, BJP has managed to shrink the vote share of other non-Congress, non-BJP parties, reducing it from 46.42% in 2014 to just 20.97% in 2024.
This shift highlights the BJP’s broader appeal beyond caste-based politics, contributing to its dominance in Haryana.
