In honor of the anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda’s birth, the folk artists performed tribal dance on Wednesday, and President of India Droupadi Murmu joined them.
Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla joined the group at the Parliament House Complex as well. Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar both tried their hand at drumming and joined in on the tribal dance.
Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi addressed the gathering, stating, “The tribal community has made a significant contribution to India’s freedom struggle… Everyone should be proud of the work the tribal community did during the freedom struggle. The purpose of celebrating Janjatiya Gaurav Divas is to raise awareness of the contributions made by the tribal community. A number of initiatives for community development have also been launched, including programs and schemes.”
