In the 2010 Bihar Legislative Assembly election for the Valmiki Nagar constituency, Rajesh Singh of the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) secured victory with 42,289 votes, capturing 29.43% of the total votes. His closest rival, Mukesh Kumar Kushwaha from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), garnered 27,618 votes, accounting for 19.22% of the total.
In the 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election for the Valmiki Nagar constituency, Dhirendra Pratap Singh, who contested as an Independent candidate, won the seat with 66,860 votes, securing 36.17% of the total votes. His nearest opponent, Irshad Hussain from the Indian National Congress (INC), received 33,280 votes, which was 18.01% of the total votes cast.
In the 2020 election results, Dhirendra Pratap Singh of the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] won with 74,906 votes, securing 38.32% of the total votes. Rajesh Singh from the Indian National Congress (INC) came second with 53,321 votes (27.28%). Sumant Kumar of JAP(L) stood third with 18,409 votes (9.42%), while Baidyanath Prasad of the BSP received 14,498 votes (7.42%).
The first phase of the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections concluded peacefully with the highest ever voter turnout of 64.66% in the history of Bihar. Later in the second phase, the voter turnout has again created history with 68.94%. The total Voter turnout percentage is 66.91 which is one of the highest turnout in Bihar Election.
JD(U) candidate Dhirendra Pratap Singh emerged victorious in the election, securing 74,906 votes, which accounted for 38.32% of the total votes. His nearest rival, Rajesh Singh of the Indian National Congress (INC), received 53,321 votes with a vote share of 27.28%. Dhirendra Pratap Singh won the contest by a margin of 21,585 votes, registering a lead of 11.04% over his closest competitor.
