Pranpur is a constituency in Bihar's Katihar district, represents a politically vibrant district in the Seemanchal region. The mixed electorate and continuous voter turnout are quite notable in this constituency.
Although the seat is primarily rural and dominated by a considerable population of Muslims, the political reins of Pranpur have oscillated quite frequently between the Bharatiya Janata Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal and even the Congress in the past, making it one of the most keenly watched constituencies in eastern Bihar.

Chief ministerial aspirants from both major alliances, NDA and Mahagathbandhan are preparing for an all-out battle because the outcome here could signal the larger electoral trends in the Katihar region.
In the 2020 Bihar Assembly election, the BJP's Nisha Singh, widow of late minister Binod Kumar Singh, defeated Tauquir Alam of the Congress by 2,972 votes. Singh's victory helped the BJP retain the seat for the third consecutive term, although the margin reflected growing competition from the opposition.
Voting in Pranpur will start from 7:00 a.m. and continue till 6:00 p.m. The Election Commission is likely to deploy additional security personnel in sensitive booths. And with high turnout expected once again this year, the authorities are hopeful of smooth and transparent polling.
Pranpur has an estimated population of more than 3.8 lakh, relying mainly on agricultural income. Muslims make up about 47 percent of the population, followed by Scheduled Castes at 8 percent and Scheduled Tribes at nearly 8 percent. The principal crops are paddy, maize and jute while banana and betel leaf farming supplement the local economy.
In the 2020 Assembly elections, the number of registered voters in Pranpur was 305,685. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, it had gone up to 315,030 evidence of consistent voting growth. The figures might change slightly after the continuous revision of the electoral rolls by the Election Commission before the 2025 polls.
The Pranpur Assembly constituency was established in 1977 and has since witnessed 11 Assembly elections. It forms part of the Katihar Lok Sabha constituency and includes the Pranpur and Azamnagar blocks. Over the years, the seat has remained a barometer of rural voter sentiment in Katihar.
