Pirpainti is a block and notified area in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar. It lies on the banks of the Ganga River about 53 km east of Bhagalpur city. Primarily a rural economy with small-scale trade, Pirpainti prospers with agriculture, fishing and river-based trade.
The cultural identity of the town is rooted in a venerated Sufi mausoleum by the Ganga, worshipped across religions. With a total number of 89 villages and 29 panchayats, Pirpainti is the largest block in Bhagalpur district.
The Pirpainti (SC) seat will go to the polls on November 11, 2025, in Phase 2 of Bihar Vidhan Sabha. Counting of votes will be held on November 14, 2025. Political analysts anticipate a very close competition, as both the RJD and BJP will look to consolidate their vote base in this essential reserved seat.
In the 2020 Assembly elections, BJP's Lalan Kumar defeated RJD's candidate by a commanding margin of 27,019 votes. The win marked a big comeback for the BJP after its narrow defeat in 2015 when RJD had claimed the seat by just over 5,000 votes. Pirpainti has long been a swing seat, which has oscillated between BJP and RJD in the last three elections.
Voting in Pirpainti constituency will begin at 7:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m. Special polling arrangements are likely in riverine and remote areas to ensure full voter participation in the polls.
Pirpainti's estimated population is 3.6 lakh, spread over rural settlements. The social composition includes 13.31% Scheduled Castes, 11.65% Scheduled Tribes and 11.7% Muslim voters, giving the constituency a diverse social structure that heavily influences electoral outcomes.
In 2020, Pirpainti had 335,919 registered voters, which rose to 353,124 by 2024. The recorded turnout of this constituency has been impressively close to 59–60%, evidencing a politically correct electorate.
The Pirpainti Assembly constituency was established in 1951 as part of Bihar's first state elections. It became a reserved seat for Scheduled Castes after delimitation in 2008. Over the years, early elections were dominated by Congress and CPI, followed by the rise of the RJD and BJP. Though it is a reserved seat, Pirpainti remains an unpredictable seat where political fortunes change with every election.
