Pirpainti is a block and notified area in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar. It lies on the banks of the Ganga River about 53 km east of Bhagalpur city. Primarily a rural economy with small-scale trade, Pirpainti prospers with agriculture, fishing and river-based trade.

The cultural identity of the town is rooted in a venerated Sufi mausoleum by the Ganga, worshipped across religions. With a total number of 89 villages and 29 panchayats, Pirpainti is the largest block in Bhagalpur district.

The Pirpainti (SC) seat will go to the polls on November 11, 2025, in Phase 2 of Bihar Vidhan Sabha. Counting of votes will be held on November 14, 2025. Political analysts anticipate a very close competition, as both the RJD and BJP will look to consolidate their vote base in this essential reserved seat.

In the 2020 Assembly elections, BJP’s Lalan Kumar defeated RJD’s candidate by a commanding margin of 27,019 votes. The win marked a big comeback for the BJP after its narrow defeat in 2015 when RJD had claimed the seat by just over 5,000 votes. Pirpainti has long been a swing seat, which has oscillated between BJP and RJD in the last three elections.

The Pirpainti Assembly constituency was established in 1951 as part of Bihar’s first state elections. It became a reserved seat for Scheduled Castes after delimitation in 2008. Though it is a reserved seat, Pirpainti remains an unpredictable seat where political fortunes change with every election.
