In the 2020 Bihar Assembly election for the Narkatiya constituency, Shamim Ahmad of the RJD secured victory with 85,562 votes, accounting for 46.69% of the total votes, reflecting an increase of 0.73% from the previous election. His nearest rival, Shyam Bihari Prasad of the JD(U), received 57,771 votes (31.53%). Sonu Kumar of the LJP followed in third place with 20,494 votes (11.18%), while independent candidates Suresh Prasad Yadav, Sanjay Kumar, and Vidyanand Prasad polled 6,149 (3.36%), 2,104 (1.15%), and 1,706 (0.93%) votes respectively. The NOTA option was selected by 4,936 voters (2.69%), marking a decline of 2.78%. Shamim Ahmad won with a majority of 27,791 votes (15.16%), registering a gain of 2.93% compared to the previous election.
