The Madhepura Assembly constituency, number 73, is a general seat and is located in the Madhepura district of Bihar. It is one of the six assembly segments that fall under the greater Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency. The seat has earned its special place in the politics of Bihar for having elected only Yadav leaders since 1957. Despite this deep caste loyalty, the constituency has often been the site of high-profile political battles, famously hosting the rivalry between Lalu Prasad Yadav and Sharad Yadav. The Rashtriya Janata Dal Party has currently occupied the seat, winning it for the third successive time with its incumbent MLA.
The polling in Madhepura will be held on November 6, 2025, during the first phase of the Assembly Elections in Bihar. The counting of votes and the announcement of results will be done on November 14, 2025.
In the 2020 election, the seat was won by the Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate, Professor Chandrashekhar Yadav. He secured 81,116 votes with a vote share of 39.52%. Yadav defeated the runner-up, Nikhil Mandal of the JD(U), by a margin of 16,046 votes. Another strong contender, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav of Jan Adhikar Party (Loktantrik), was able to secure a considerable percentage of votes.
In Madhepura, the official window for voting is usually from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the day of polling, i.e., November 6, 2025.
The Madhepura Assembly constituency (No. 73) covers the entire Madhepura, Ghamharia, and Ghailadh community development blocks. The Yadav community voters make up almost 32% of the electorate.
