Kargahar is one of the six assembly constituencies in the Sasaram subdivision of Bihar’s Rohtas district, is a fully rural constituency comprising 257 villages, 198 inhabited and 59 uninhabited. 

The nearest town is Sasaram, the district headquarters. Though the probability of agriculture is high here, the sex ratio and female literacy rate are still skewed. The sex ratio was 908 females per 1,000 males as per the 2011 Census, but there were some encouraging signs in the 0–6 age category as girls outnumbered boys by a small margin.

Kargahar Constituency Election 2025 Date

The date for the Kargahar Assembly Election 2025 has been scheduled as Phase 2 on November 11, 2025. The counting of votes will take place on November 14, 2025. This election is expected to be a close contest, with neck-to-neck contests in recent years between the RJD and the NDA.

Kargahar Bihar Election Result 2020

The RJD gained victory for the first time in Kargahar in the 2020 Assembly elections after the constituency had been won by JD(U) for two consecutive terms. The RJD candidate won the election by a narrow margin of 4,083 votes, reflecting a change in the mood of the electorate.

Earlier, JD(U) had won comfortably in 2010 and 2015 by margins of 13,197 and 12,907 votes, respectively. However, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP was in front by a slender margin of 3,035 votes in the Kargahar segment, thus preparing a ground for an exciting 2025 contest.

What is the population in Kargahar?

According to the 2011 Census, Kargahar block had a population of about 188,000 and a predominantly agricultural and allied occupation. The overall literacy for the area was 73.71 percent, with a very significant gap between males at 73.71 percent and females at 60.92 percent.

How Many Kargahar Registered Voters?

In the 2020 elections, Kargahar had 324,906 registered voters, out of which 59.85 percent cast their ballots. This number increased slightly to 329,466 in the 2024 parliamentary elections. Scheduled Castes constitute 20.41 percent while Muslims comprise 6.4 percent of the electors.

In which year was Kargahar established?

The Kargahar Assembly constituency was carved out in 2008 as a part of delimitation, its first election was held in 2010. Since then, it has emerged as a key political battleground in which alliances, caste composition and local leadership continue to determine the outcome.
