Kadwa is one of the key Assembly constituencies in the Katihar district of Bihar and holds significance in the eastern part of the state.

The area lies within the floodplains of the Mahananda and Barandi rivers and is primarily agrarian with major produce including rice, maize and jute while the soil is fertile, continuous floods and underdeveloped infrastructure have kept the region battling migration and poverty. 

Political significance has increased over the years in Kadwa, making it an important seat in the Seemanchal belt.

Kadwa Election 2025 Date

It will go to polls in Phase 2 of the Bihar Assembly election 2025 on November 11, 2025. The counting of votes would start on November 14, 2025 with the alliance of NDA in place, the contest is expected to be tougher this time around.

Kadwa Bihar Election Result 2020

Shakeel Ahmad Khan of the Congress retained the Kadwa seat in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections by garnering 71,267 votes and defeating Chandra Bhushan Thakur of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), who received 38,865 votes.

During the polls, the winning margin of Congress increased significantly from 2015 due to a split in NDA alliance then between JD(U) and LJP.

Kadwa Bihar Assembly Election Voting Time

In Kadwa, voting will start from 7:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. The Election Commission is deploying security forces in sensitive polling stations to guarantee free and honest elections.

What is the Population of Kadwa?

Kadwa is estimated to have a population of around 3.2 lakh, with agriculture forming its backbone. The constituency is known to be socially diversified with Muslims comprising about 42.6 percent, while Hindus make up nearly 56 percent. The area has a small share of Scheduled Castes at 11.96% and Scheduled Tribes at 1.58%.

How Many Kadwa Registered Voters?

In the 2020 Assembly elections, Kadwa had 281,355 registered voters, with a turnout of 60.31 percent. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the number increased slightly to 288,013 voters, despite some outmigration reported by the Election Commission.

Kadwa Was Established In?

The Kadwa Assembly constituency was formed in 1951. It was abolished in 1962 following a delimitation exercise and restored again in 1977. Since then, 14 Assembly elections have been conducted in Kadwa.

Over the years, Kadwa has been represented by both Hindu and Muslim MLAs, reflecting its mixed electorate.
