Jamui, a district town of Bihar, is located on the Bihar-Jharkhand border. It became a separate district in February 1991 after being carved out of Munger. Large parts of Jamui are covered by dense forests. Jamui has a unique geographical feature that few can match. Nestled along the Kiul River, it has the best of the two states – fertile Gangetic plain to the north and the hilly margins of the Chota Nagpur plateau to the south. Sadly, it does not have the best of any of the two states and is rated among India’s 250 most backward districts, relying on funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF) to keep itself afloat.
