Ghosi Past Bihar Election Result?

Ghosi’s political history is equally bland, likely influenced by the low literacy rate and poor economic conditions. Voters here tend to support candidates rather than parties, shifting allegiance from the extreme Left to the extreme Right, as well as Independents and centrist parties. A prime example is Jagdish Sharma, who won eight consecutive elections from Ghosi between 1977 and 2005, representing the Janata Party (1977), BJP (1980), Congress (1985, 1990, 1995), as an Independent twice, and finally the JD(U) in 2005. Sharma resigned as an MLA in 2009 after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Jehanabad on a JD(U) ticket. His Lok Sabha membership was terminated in 2013 when he was sentenced to four years in prison in the fodder scam case, along with RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Jagdish Sharma’s political dominance in Ghosi did not end with his Lok Sabha election. His wife, Shanti Sharma, won the 2009 Assembly bypoll as an Independent, followed by their son Rahul Sharma securing victory in 2010 on a JD(U) ticket. The Yadav family held the Ghosi seat for 38 consecutive years, representing four separate parties. Their reign ended in 2015 when the JD(U) denied Rahul Sharma a ticket. He contested as a HAM candidate but lost by over 21,000 votes while his father was in jail. In 2020, the JD(U) fielded Rahul Sharma again after Jagdish Sharma’s release, but he lost by over 17,000 votes. Currently, Jagdish Sharma is associated with his fifth political party, serving as HAM’s vice president.

  • As a Block: Ghosi became one of the seven administrative Blocks of the newly formed Jehanabad district on August 1, 1986, when Jehanabad was carved out of Gaya district.

The town of Ghosi has existed for a very long time, but its modern administrative identity as an assembly constituency began in 1951, and as a block within Jehanabad district in 1986.
