Dinara is a development block in Bihar's Rohtas district under the subdivision of Bikramganj, representing a predominantly agrarian belt about 40 kilometers away from Sasaram. This constituency one of the six segments of the Buxar Lok Sabha seat lies alongside the fertile Gangetic plains near the Sone River.
Historically, Dinara was part of ancient empires such as the Magadh, Maurya and Gupta dynasties, later ruled by Sher Shah Suri and the Mughals before coming under British control.
The election for Dinara Assembly Election 2025 shall be held on November 11, 2025, in Phase 2 of Bihar's state polls. Counting of votes is slated to be held on November 14, 2025. Political observers believe it would be an interesting contest as both RJD and NDA try to consolidate their vote bases.
In the 2020 Assembly elections, RJD's Vijay Kumar Mandal beat the sitting MLA Jai Kumar Singh by 8,228 votes. The election saw a split in the NDA votes as the LJP pulled out of the alliance and fielded a candidate who finished second. The NDA regained some lost ground in the seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, with the BJP leading from Dinara with a margin of 4,671 votes.
Polling in Dinara will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and all the security arrangements have been made for hassle-free voting in its rural booths.
According to the 2011 Census, Dinara had a population of 225,468 in 33,227 households. The literacy rate was 58.70 per cent - 67.10 per cent for males and 49.62 per cent for females. The sex ratio stood at 925 females per 1,000 males.
Dinara had 301,575 registered voters in 2020, out of which nearly 60 percent turned out to vote. The figure rose to 307,795 voters in 2024. OBCs form about 45 percent of the electorate, upper castes 25 percent, Dalits 20 percent and Muslims 6.8 percent.
Dinara constituency came into being in 1951 and has witnessed 17 elections so far. Over these decades, power has oscillated between the Congress, JD(U) and Socialist parties.
