Dhamdaha is one of the important Assembly constituencies in Bihar's Purnia district, enjoys pride of place in the political map of the state. Characterized by vast stretches of plains and recurring floods, this predominantly rural seat has remained a JD (United) stronghold for decades.
The area's political narrative has been built around Minister Lesi Singh, who has represented the constituency on multiple occasions and has become one of JD (United) most enduring faces in the Seemanchal region.
The Bihar Assembly Election 2025 for the Dhamdaha constituency will be held on November 11, 2025 with counting on November 14, 2025. All major political parties are gearing up for what is expected to be another closely contested race.
In the 2020 Assembly election, Lesi Singh of JD(U) won the seat by defeating Dilip Kumar Yadav of RJD by 33,594 votes. The voter turnout was 63.39 percent, a shade lower than in previous elections. Despite growing anti-incumbency sentiment in Bihar at the time, Singh’s hold over the constituency remained strong.
Polling in the constituency will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as per the standard schedule of the Election Commission. Special security and transport arrangements will be made for remote and flood affected areas.
With an estimated population of around 3.7 lakh, the majority of the people in Dhamdaha depend on agriculture for their livelihood. Local farming mainly consists of paddy, maize, and jute, but frequent flooding and limited irrigation is a continuing problem.
In 2020, the number of registered voters was 315,754, including 16.68% Scheduled Castes, 7.22% Scheduled Tribes, and nearly 19.80% Muslim voters. The number rose to 326,417 by 2024, reflecting steady growth in the electorate.
The Dhamdaha Assembly constituency was established in 1957 and forms part of the Purnia Lok Sabha seat. Over the years, it has witnessed 16 elections and produced leaders across political lines-from the Congress to socialist parties, JD(U) and RJD.
