The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections have already geared up as voters are up to decide on key issues such as infrastructure growth, job creation, school standards, healthcare access, and safe public order. Dehri, commonly referred to as “Dehri-on-Son,” is a block in Bihar’s Rohtas district. Situated on the banks of the Son River, the town is strategically important due to its major railway junction and location on the Delhi-Kolkata highway. The history of Dalmianagar, located adjacent to Dehri, is a living example of how a failure of law and order can lead industrial development towards ruin.

Dehri Bihar Election Result 2020?
The BJP recorded its first and only victory on this seat in the 2019 by-election, which was necessitated after the RJD MLA, Mohammad Ilyas Hussain, was disqualified. However, in the 2020 Assembly elections, the RJD won back this seat by a mere margin of 464 votes. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the CPI(ML)(Liberation) won the Karakat parliamentary constituency and gained a lead in all six assembly segments, including Dehri. Despite this, the BJP sees a glimmer of hope based on its 2019 victory and the narrow margin of defeat in 2020.

Dehri was Established in?
The modern town of Dehri (Dehri-on-Sone) began to develop in the 1870s, with significant growth as an industrial and transportation hub. There is no single “establishment” date for the area as a whole, which has a history spanning back to ancient empires.
Established in the 1930s by industrialist Ramkrishna Dalmia, Dalmianagar once flourished as an industrial centre. Several factories operated here under Rohtas Industries Limited, but conditions began to deteriorate from the mid-1970s. Crime, robbery, kidnapping, and labour movements increased. As a result, management weakened, and factories began to shut down in the 1980s. By 1990, this gleaming industrial area had transformed into a deserted town, making it clear to what extent administrative failure can impact a local economy.
