Chenari is one of Bihar's major reserved constituencies for Scheduled Castes in the Rohtas district. It comprises the blocks of Chenari, Rohtas and Nauhatta, along with select gram panchayats from Shivsagar.

The constituency falls under the Sasaram Lok Sabha seat and has remained politically significant because of its swing voting patterns and history of close contests.

Chenari (SC) Bihar Election Result 2020

In the 2020 Assembly elections, Murari Prasad Gautam of Congress defeated JD(U)’s Lalan Paswan by 18,003 votes. The LJP had also made its presence felt by fielding Chandra Shekhar Paswan, whose votes nearly matched JD(U)’s losing margin, splitting the NDA vote. In 2024, Gautam switched to the BJP, strengthening the party’s local base even as Congress retained its lead in Chenari during the Lok Sabha polls.

According to the 2011 Census, Chenari tehsil had a population of 303,618. It has a sex ratio of 920 females for every 1,000 males. The literacy rate stands at 70.8 percent. Languages usually spoken are Bhojpuri, Hindi, and Urdu, indicating the cultural diversity of the area.
