Bihpur is a primarily agricultural constituency of Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, flanked by the rivers Ganga, Kosi and Burhi Gandak. The land here is among the most fertile in the state with farming being the backbone of local life.

Historically a part of the ancient Anga kingdom, its origin and meaning are not certain but since it became an assembly seat, the area has become synonymous with a restless electorate that regularly changes its representative in the hope of development and stability.

In 2025, the Bihpur Assembly Election will be conducted on November 11, which falls in Phase 2 of the Bihar Vidhan Sabha elections. Counting is expected on November 14, 2025 with both major alliances including the NDA and Mahagathbandhan, eyeing this key rural seat, the campaign here is expected to be fierce.

Bihpur Bihar Election Result 2020

The BJP won the Bihpur seat in the 2020 Assembly election by a margin of 6,129 votes over its nearest rival, the RJD. The BJP had earlier won in 2010 with a slender margin of 465 votes but lost to the RJD in 2015 by 12,716 votes. This alternation shows the variability of this constituency and the resistance of its electorate to complacency.

Bihpur has an estimated population of 3.2 lakh, predominantly rural. Agriculture is the mainstay of its local economy and the social composition has 7.8% Scheduled Castes and 12.6% Muslims. The remainder includes a blend of backward and upper castes with no significant industrial presence.

According to Election Commission data, Bihpur had 258,884 registered voters in 2020, which rose to 268,664 by the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Nearly 42 percent of the electorate did not vote in 2020, signaling voter fatigue and political disillusionment.
