It is one of the six assembly segments that fall under the broader Darbhanga Lok Sabha constituency. The political dynamic in Benipur has often been a contest between major regional and national parties, particularly the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), especially as part of the NDA alliance. The JD(U) currently holds the seat, reflecting the significant influence of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the region.
The polling for the Benipur Assembly constituency is expected to be held in Phase 1 of the Bihar Assembly Elections. The Benipur Assembly constituency (No. 80) includes the community development blocks of Benipur, Baheri and Biraul. It is a semi-urban area, combining small towns with rural areas and is considered to be an agricultural region. The population in the area was reported to be 5,08,040 in 2024.
Demographically, the constituency had 2,89,224 registered voters in the 2020 election. The significant social groups include: Scheduled Castes (SC) had about 15.24% of the electorate, numbering 44,078 voters. Muslims: Accounted for approximately 13.70% of the electorate with 39,623 voters.
Yadavs accounted for about 12% of the electorates, numbering 34,706. The seat is also considered to have a significant influence of the Brahmin community, one of the reasons that all five MLAs elected from the seat since its revival have belonged to the Brahmin community.
