Belaganj is a block-level town in Bihar’s Gaya district, situated in the Magadh region. Located about 25 kilometres southwest of Gaya city, it lies near the Falgu River. Bodh Gaya is roughly 40 km away, while the state capital, Patna, is around 100 km from here. The fertile Gangetic plains make agriculture the backbone of Belaganj’s economy. Apart from farming, small-scale industries such as rice mills, pottery, and handicrafts provide other livelihood opportunities for the local population.

In the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Surendra Prasad Yadav won from the Belaganj constituency. He defeated Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) candidate Abhay Kumar Sinha by a significant margin of 23,963 votes.

The total voter turnout in the Belaganj assembly constituency was approximately 61.29%.

The population of the Belaganj Block (Community Development Block), as per the 2011 Census, was 222,003 people.

According to the 2011 Census, the key demographic details are as follows:
• Total Population: 222,003
• Male Population: 114,912
• Female Population: 107,091
• Rural Population: All inhabitants were
listed as rural since no official towns existed within the block’s limits at that time.
• Sex Ratio: 932 females per 1000 males. Current estimates for the population would be higher due to natural growth, but the 2011 census remains the last official count.

As of the 2025 Bihar Assembly Election, there are a total of 275,570 registered voters in the Belaganj Assembly constituency.
