Located in the Bhagalpur division of Bihar, Banka is a district headquarters town with a mix of ancient heritage, agricultural roots and growing commercial potential. Carved out of Bhagalpur district in 1991, Banka sits on Bihar’s southeastern edge, sharing its southern border with Jharkhand.

The region’s landscape is diverse flat and fertile in the north, but rocky and forested in the south. The Chanan River, which originates in Jharkhand, flows through the district before meeting the Ganga. An ancient trading center, Banka has grown into Bihar’s 10th biggest city, yet remains heavily dependent on agriculture.

Banka Constituency Election 2025 Date

The Banka seat is going to the polls in Phase 2 of the Bihar Assembly election on November 11, 2025. The counting of votes will be held on November 14, 2025. The region continues to be politically important for both the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan due to its location as one of six segments under the Banka Lok Sabha seat.

Banka Bihar Election Result 2020

In the 2020 Assembly elections, Ramnarayan Mandal of the BJP won by a margin of 16,828 votes, the victory margin over his nearest rival. Mandal, a veteran politician, has won the Banka seat six times – three consecutive terms after the 2014 by-election. The victory reaffirmed BJP’s stronghold in the constituency. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, JD(U)’s Giridhari Yadav had maintained NDA’s dominance, leading by 18,031 votes in this segment.

Banka Bihar Assembly Election Voting Time

The polling in Banka constituency will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Election Commission is likely to deploy additional forces and modern polling infrastructure, especially in rural and hilly areas which reported security challenges earlier.

What is the Population in Banka?

As per recent estimates, Banka district’s population stands at about 2.03 million, with the majority engaged in farming and small-scale trade. Despite its growing urban pocket, the district remains largely rural. The region has been declared free of Naxal activity by the Union Home Ministry in 2024, boosting confidence in economic and electoral stability.

How Many Banka Registered Voters?

In 2020, the number of registered voters in the Banka Assembly constituency stood at 254,480. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, it increased to 270,818. The voter base has 11.26% Scheduled Castes, 2.01% Scheduled Tribes and 13.5% Muslims.

The Ahir (Yadav) community holds an influential 22.3% of the electorate. Voter turnout has been consistently high, reaching 62.62% in the 2020 polls given the insurgency issues the region has had in the past.

Banka Was Established In?

The Banka Assembly constituency is one of the oldest electoral seats in Bihar, established in 1951. It has gone to the polls 20 times, including four by-elections. Over the years, BJP and its predecessor Jana Sangh has won eight times, Congress seven times, RJD twice and Swatantra Party and Janata Party once each.
