Amarpur in Bihar’s Banka district is fast changing from a rural settlement into a budding commercial hub and it falls between the definitions of a town and a village.

In recent years, the place has been gaining importance as an emerging trade center with increased migration from the surrounding villages supported by better infrastructure. 

From being known as a hub of sugar mills, Amarpur has gradually shifted to small-scale trade, construction and agriculture-based economies.

Amarpur Constituency Election 2025 Date

Amarpur Assembly constituency will go to polls in Phase 2 of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 on November 11, 2025. The counting of votes is scheduled for November 14, 2025. As one of the six constituencies under the Banka Lok Sabha seat, Amarpur plays a key role in shaping the political outcome of the region.

Amarpur Bihar Election Result 2020

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Jayant Raj Kushwaha of JD(United) won the seat by defeating Jitendra Singh of the Congress, backed by the RJD led Mahagathbandhan, by 3,114 votes.

The LJP contesting independently after exiting the NDA bagged 40,308 votes in the said election, which indirectly affected JD(U)’s margin. JD (U) regained its dominance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, leading by 29,113 votes in the Amarpur segment after the LJP returned to the NDA alliance.

Amarpur Bihar Assembly Election Voting Time

Polling in Amarpur will start at 7:00 a.m. and continue till 6:00 p.m. The Election Commission is likely to deploy adequate security and e-voting facilities across rural areas to facilitate smooth conduct of polling.

What is the population in Amarpur?

It is 19 km from Banka, 27 km from Bhagalpur, and approximately 200 kms from Patna. The Chanan River and smaller streams like Belharni and Barua make its plains fertile and ideal for agriculture. Once known for sugar production, Amarpur’s economy now depends on farming, retail trade and construction. The region also boasts a very low crime rate, adding to the peaceful environment that encourages small businesses to thrive.

How Many Amarpur Registered Voters?

In the 2020 Assembly elections, the number of registered voters was 295,587 and in the 2024 polls, it went up to 305,894. The Scheduled Castes have 12.88% and Muslims make up approximately 10.5% of the electorate. The seat remains predominantly rural with just 6.32% urban voters. Voter turnout has remained around 55% during the last three elections.

Amarpur Was Established In?

The Amarpur Assembly constituency was established in 1957 and forms part of the Banka Lok Sabha constituency. Since then, it has held 16 Assembly elections with power alternating between national and regional parties.

The Congress has won four times, RJD and JD(U) three times each, while smaller parties like the Samyukta Socialist Party and Janata Dal have also had brief success.
