The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) in Bihar revealed its candidates for the upcoming by-elections, scheduled to take place on October 20. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) state office, attended by key leaders of the alliance.
Candidates for the Bypolls
The alliance named the following candidates for the four assembly seats:
- Roshan Kumar Majhi from Imamganj
- Vishwanath Kumar Singh from Belaganj
- Ajit Kumar Singh from Ramgarh
- Raju Yadav from Tarari
These four seats are significant for the Mahagathbandhan, which comprises the RJD, Congress, and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP).
Bypolls Across 15 States
The by-elections will take place across 15 states, including Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
On October 15, the Election Commission announced the bypolls for 48 assembly constituencies, including nine seats in Uttar Pradesh and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. Polling for 47 assembly seats and the Wayanad seat will be held on November 13, while elections for one constituency in Uttarakhand and Nanded constituency in Maharashtra will be on November 20.
Uttar Pradesh will witness the largest number of by-elections, with the following seats going to polls:
- Meerapur
- Kundarki
- Ghaziabad
- Khair
- Karhal
- Phulpur
- Katehari
- Majhawan
- Sishamau
Bihar Assembly Elections in 2025
While these by-elections are important for the immediate political landscape, the full Bihar assembly elections are expected to be held in October-November 2025.
